Kinda Shabby Chic

                                                     Hi everyone,

In January, in my Grow your blog Party post,
I mentioned that we are busy redoing our house,
and I promised to keep you posted.

Today I want to share some pictures of our living room.
We have a few possibilities in how to group our
furniture and mostly we change it in October and in March.
In our 'Winter' and 'Summer' room.
That is because we have a wood stove and on cold winterevenings
we love to sit on the couch in front of the fire watching a film
                                                  or reading a book.

Our house was rebuild by other owners before us and they
extended the room at the back side into the garden.
This is were we sit during Spring and Summer.

Here are some pictures of the winter position......

We don't like the way our television is placed very much,
                                           but it's good enough...... :)

This table we found in the thrift shop for 15 euro and painted it white.

These Art Deco twin bed room cabinets we found in a kind of
                                             thrift/antique shop
over twenty years ago. I still love them.

Our oldest son Leon is a painter and his latest work ,
the two white dogs (designed by him) ,
                                       are temporary hanging with us.

Normally this table is full of all kinds of my crafting stuff.
This picture is taken just before we changed the room
so that's why it looks so empty.... :).

And here's the first effort of our changed Summer living room......

Eight years ago we painted mostly everything cream, and some months ago
we decided to go for white.

But here's the thing.........

Both of us are not in love with it.
I never thought I would ever say that, but I find it will be too white.
I know that I love all the wonderful pictures of Shabby Chic Interiors.
And I dreamed of having a white room or even a white house.
But it's not warm enough to my taste and I like to add some
dark items to it.

So we made a plan and are working it out.
The walls and ceiling will be white
in combination with the
'clay' kind of color.
Some of the furniture
will stay dark and I sewed
other wraps for the couch pillows.
I found some beautiful old fabrics.

So.............
this is the first episode of the changing
of our house into a home.......

On the internet I found some wonderful photo's
of an abandoned apartment in Paris.
A Lady left it in 1942 and all this years
she payed the rent and nobody lived there,
so it stayed as it was.

We both absolutely love the feel of this house and soo want to try
to bring some of that touch in our living room.
I know, that will be very hard, but it's worth the effort...
........I think........

Here's one of the pictures,

                                    What do yóu think........ ??
Don't you love the feel of this room..... ?

                                      To be continued......

                                                         With Love,
                                                                  Wilma.

  1. Wilma, I love your room no matter what color you use. The room layout is so pretty and the view outdoors is just lovely. It looks like it is so cozy in the winter and so tranquil in the summer. You have such a talent for decorating!!

  2. Hello Wilma
Your home is really charming! You have worked hard to create the look you want! You have such a beautiful view outside which really appeals to my gardening eyes. I love the white but, like you, it is too much with all
white and there is something so graceful about the muted shades of sage in that French woman's flat that is beautiful along with the old tapestry and upholstered chairs. One could surely never tire of that look to my eyes.
Have a wonderful day enjoying the look into your garden.
Great painting by your son also. Looks fantastic on the wall there!
    Warm hugs Wilma,
    Suzy

  3. Wilma, your home is beautiful and looks cosy to me! But I think I understand what you are saying. I loook at all the lovely white rooms on other's blogs and they are so calming and beautiful, but when it is a room in my home, I always want more color to it. And I can't really ay why, in pictures it is so pretty, but in my real life, I always add color. Strange isn't it!

But your home looks as beautiful to me as all those other beautiful rooms!
    hugs,
    Betsy

  4. Oh, and I read the article about the gal's apartment too, it was amazing! I love that sage green and how that room feels. I ahve sage green in our masterbedroom. Most of it is cream, but I have a peachy brown carpet and an upholstry fabric on a few pieces of furniture. It is the fabric that is on my blog header picture. It is on a cedar chest, a bench and enough to reupholster the chair in my room. It also has gold accents. But I had to ahve that little bit of color! I love the ceiling molding in that apartment!
    hugs,
    Betsy

  5. Hello sweet Wilma! I hopped over to see if you had a new post and yippee! You did! And wow how pretty your home is! The light in that room on the garden end is lovely! It looks so inviting and cozy. I love the two cabinets too, but my eyes were drawn most to the two plaques above them...and I just have to ask you for the translations! They are beautiful, and I KNOW they are about the Lord! The garden view out your window is so calming, I know you must love working at that table when it is there. You have inspired me to clean my windows! (Well, some day!). The photo of the apartment left to itself for so long intrigues me so I will have a closer look. The rug is such that it seems to give a warmth and cohesiveness to the rosy touches in that room, I love how it looks. The whites are aged looking and have a kind of darkecrevices in them (I cannot think what that is called, maybe antiquing?), perhaps with stain, and of course that gorgeous wallpaper.
The touches in your home that make it personal are the sweetest...the gorgeous tea sets...oh to share a time of fellowship with you over a pot of tea!
Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your home. I will see you there in my mind's eye enjoying the view!
    Hugs!!
    Doni
